The Green Business Expo - a strategic project for CEDAN and the Tecnológico de Monterrey - seeks to encourage a sustainable entrepreneurial culture among alumni and young Mexicans. This is why it is very important to discuss possible synergies to be established among universities and public officials, the private sector, development banks and other financing institutions. This collaboration can help accelerate the transition towards more sustainable patterns of production and consumption.
This is what gives birth to this discussion panel in the context of COP16 at Cancun; to explore the opportunities of collaboration among these sectors in order to help Mexico become a low-carbon economy. The Honorable Stéphane Dion will discuss the importance of strong policy to promote clean technology and other green kinds of investment. Mr. Elías Freig will talk about the role that development banks must play to finance mitigation and adaptatio projects. Irina Maslennikova will describe some of the efforts the private sector has undertaken in order to reduce emissions and use natural resources more efficiently, focusing on Xerox's initiatives in Mexico. This will give a broad idea of the potential to transform the industry.
Dr. Isabel Studer will talk about the importantce of transitioning towards a greener economy, promoting a greener culture among entrepreneurs, and focusing on the role that educational institutions must play in this task. She will focus on the Green Business Expo, an event organized by the Tecnológico de Monterrey with the objective of fostering innovation and knowledge-sharing in this regard.
This panel is carried out in the context of the technological exhibition “Greensolutions@COP16”, is a space in which leading technological companies dedicated to low-carbon industrial processes will present their most relevant progress on research and development. The same event will host a series of seminars, workshops and conferences on carbon markets, climate finance, services, technology applied to low-carbon industrial processes, investment, renewable energies and energy efficiency, among others.
GreenSolutions@COP16 is organized by the Mexican Secretary of Foreign Affairs and Proméxico. You will find more information in the event’s webpage: www.greensolutionscop16.com/
